Intermountain Search Dogs usually accepts new dogs twice a year – January and June/July. We encourage people to contact us long before these times to see what is involved in becoming a search dog handler.
To apply to be a member of ISD, whether seeking to be a dog handler or navigator, the individual must:
1. Contact ISD.
2. Attend at least four scheduled ISD trainings without their dog.
3. Submit a completed application with a one time non-refundable $15.00 fee no later than the 6th training session with ISD.
4. If interested in being a handler, have the dog evaluated at the next dog evaluation time.
If you are considering becoming a search dog handler, we invite you to read our letter to prospective handlers.
